Is ClipDrift Safe to Use?

Short answer: yes. Here is what ClipDrift does with your data, what it never asks for, and how to tell whether any X downloader is safe.

Works with x.com, twitter.com, fxtwitter, vxtwitter and fixupx links.

Before you paste a link into a download site, it makes sense to ask: is X downloader safe to use at all? It depends on the tool. Some download sites push fake buttons, unwanted extensions or requests to log in. This page explains how ClipDrift works, so you can judge for yourself.

ClipDrift is an independent website for saving videos, GIFs and images from public posts on X (Twitter). It is not affiliated with X Corp.

How to download from X safely in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Copy the link from X

Use the share icon on the post and choose Copy link. You never need to give a downloader your X username or password.

  2. 2

    Paste it into ClipDrift

Paste the link into the box on this page and press Download. There is no file to install and no permission to grant.

  3. 3

    Save only what you need

Download the file you want. It comes straight from X's servers, and ClipDrift does not keep a copy.

Is X downloader safe? How ClipDrift handles your data

When you paste a link, ClipDrift asks X's public embed service for the post. This is the same public data any website receives when it embeds a post. We never log in to X on your behalf and never ask for your account details.

For each download, we record anonymous statistics: the post ID, the media type, the quality and your country, which is worked out from your network, never your exact location. No IP address or personal identifier is attached to these records.

Your IP address is used briefly in memory to apply a rate limit, which stops abuse and keeps the service fast. It is not saved in our database. If a lookup fails, we save the link and the error so we can fix the problem. Media files stream from X to your device, and we do not store copies of them.

The site sets no cookies of its own except your theme preference. If analytics or advertising are enabled, those partners may set their own cookies, which you can block in your browser. Our privacy policy has the full details.

Is X downloader bot safe?

Downloader bots run inside apps like Telegram or Discord, or reply on X when you tag them. They can be convenient, but you are sending your links, and sometimes your messages, to a third party whose data practices may be unclear.

Before using any bot, check who runs it, what it stores and whether it asks for permissions it does not need. A bot or site that asks for your X password, or wants you to authorize access to your account, is a red flag. ClipDrift is not a bot. It is a website that needs nothing from you except a link.

Warning signs of an unsafe downloader

Whichever tool you use, watch out for these:

  • It asks for your X username, password or account access.
  • It makes you install a browser extension or app before you can download.
  • The download button opens new tabs, pop-ups or unrelated software.
  • The file you get is an .exe, .apk or archive instead of a video or image.
  • It has no privacy policy and no way to contact the people behind it.

ClipDrift avoids all of these. If you ever see something on our site that looks wrong, tell us through the contact page.

Why ClipDrift is a safe X downloader

X downloader safety and privacy FAQ

Is ClipDrift safe?

Yes. ClipDrift is a website, so there is nothing to install, and it never asks for your X password. Files come straight from X's servers, we do not keep copies, and your IP address is not saved in our database.

Is X downloader safe?

A good X downloader is safe to use. Look for a tool that works in the browser, never asks you to log in, delivers real video or image files and explains how it handles your data. Avoid any downloader that wants your password or makes you install software.

Is X downloader bot safe?

It depends on who runs the bot. Bots in Telegram, Discord or on X can see the links and messages you send them, and their data practices are often unclear. Never give a bot your X password. ClipDrift is a website, not a bot, and needs only a link.

Do I need an account?

No. You do not need a ClipDrift account, and you never need to sign in to X to use the tool.

Does ClipDrift store the videos I download?

No. Media files stream from X's servers to your device. We do not keep copies of the videos, GIFs or images you save.

What data does ClipDrift collect?

Anonymous download statistics (post ID, media type, quality and country), the link and error for failed lookups, and anything you send through the contact or DMCA forms. Your IP address is used briefly for rate limiting and is not stored in our database.

Will the creator know I downloaded their video?

No. ClipDrift reads public post data and does not interact with the post or the account, so the creator is not notified.

Is it legal to download videos from X?

It depends on your country and on how you use the file. Only download content you own or have permission to use, and do not repost other people's work without permission. Rights holders can contact us through our DMCA page.
