Twitter Video Downloader

Twitter (X) stores each video in several sizes, so it can play smoothly on a slow mobile connection as well as on fast home Wi-Fi. ClipDrift asks X's public embed service for the tweet, collects the video versions and sorts them from best to smallest.

When you download, the file streams directly from X's servers. ClipDrift does not convert or compress it, so the MP4 is identical to what X plays, with no watermark. We do not store a copy.

On an iPhone or iPad, use Safari. The video goes to the Files app, and from there you can save it to Photos with the share icon.

On Android, use Chrome or any other browser. The file saves to Downloads and usually shows up in your gallery.

On Windows, Mac, Linux or a Chromebook, the MP4 goes to your downloads folder and plays in any media player.

A few small things make every download go smoothly:

• Copy the link of the tweet that contains the video, not the profile or a search page.
• If a tweet has more than one video, ClipDrift lists each one so you can choose.
• Choose the highest quality for editing or a big screen, and a smaller size to save space on your phone.
• If a tweet shows as unavailable, it may be private, deleted or age-restricted.

Screen recording works in a pinch, but it is a poor copy. The recording is limited to your screen's resolution, it re-compresses the video, and it often captures notifications, buttons and the status bar along with the clip. You also have to sit through the whole video while it records.
