Twitter Video Won't Download? 8 Fixes That Work
Pasted a link and nothing happened? Here are eight practical fixes for when a Twitter video won't download, in the order most likely to solve it.

You found the clip, copied the link, pressed Download, and got an error or nothing at all. It's frustrating, but almost every case where a Twitter video won't download comes down to a handful of causes, and most have a quick fix. This guide works through them in order, starting with the most common.
The fixes apply to any browser-based downloader, with specific notes for ClipDrift. They work for links from X (formerly Twitter) on iPhone, Android, Windows, Mac and Chromebook.
Link problems
Start here. A surprising number of failed downloads have nothing to do with the video itself and everything to do with the link that was pasted.
Fix 1: Copy the link to the right post
This is the most common problem by far. A downloader looks up exactly one post, so the link needs to point to the post that actually contains the video.
Open the post itself. Tap the post (not the video) so it opens on its own page, then copy the link.
In threads, each post has its own link. Our guide on downloading videos from an X thread explains how to get each one.
In quote posts, the video usually belongs to the quoted post. Tap the embedded box to open it and copy that link. Our guide on saving a video from a reply or quote post covers this.
Fix 2: Make sure the link is a post link
A post link contains the account name, the word "status" and a long number. If your link ends with just a username, it's a profile link. Search, hashtag and home page links won't work either. Our guide on how to copy the link to an X post shows what a correct link looks like on every device.
Remove extra text
Some apps add a sentence before the link when you share. Delete everything except the link itself before pasting. The link should start with https:// and contain no spaces.
Post problems
If the link is right, the next question is whether the post can be reached at all. These limits come from X, not from the downloader, so no tool can work around them.
Fix 3: Check the post is public
Downloaders can only reach posts that anyone can see without logging in. A video won't download if:
The account is protected. Only approved followers can see its posts.
The post was deleted. It no longer exists.
The account is suspended or deactivated.
The post is age-restricted or marked sensitive, which may require logging in to view.
A quick test is to open the link in a private or incognito browser window. If you can't see the post there, a downloader can't either. Our article on what "this post is unavailable" means on X explains each situation.
Fix 4: Check the video is actually on X
Some posts show a preview card for a video hosted elsewhere, such as YouTube or a news site. That video isn't stored on X, so an X downloader can't save it. Tap the video: if it opens another website, it's an external link, not an X video.
Connection and browser problems
When the link is correct and the post is public, the issue is usually on your side: a limit, a browser setting or your connection.
Fix 5: Wait out a rate limit
To keep the service fast for everyone, ClipDrift limits how many requests one connection can make in a short time. If you see a "too many requests" message, wait a minute and try again. Shared networks, such as schools, offices or some mobile carriers, can hit limits faster because many people share one connection.
Fix 6: Try a different browser or clear the cache
Occasionally, a browser extension or cached data interferes with a page.
Try a private or incognito window, which runs without most extensions.
Disable ad blockers or privacy extensions temporarily for the site.
Clear your browser cache and reload the page.
Try another browser, such as Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox.
Fix 7: Check your connection and storage
Weak connection: large HD videos may fail on unstable mobile data. Try Wi-Fi or a lower quality.
Full storage: if your phone or computer is almost full, the download may stop partway. Free up space first. Our guide on managing downloaded videos when Android storage is full has tips.
Download any X video in seconds
Paste a post link below to save the video, GIF or image in the best quality.
Works with x.com, twitter.com, fxtwitter, vxtwitter and fixupx links.
The download worked, but where is it?
Fix 8: Check where the file went
Sometimes the download worked and the file is simply somewhere unexpected.
iPhone: downloads go to the Files app, not Photos. See our guide on where downloads go on iPhone.
Android: look in the Download folder or your browser's downloads list. See where downloads go on Android.
Computer: press Ctrl+J (Windows, Chromebook) or check the Downloads folder on a Mac.
GIFs arrive as MP4 files
If you downloaded a GIF and found an MP4, that's expected. X stores GIFs as short looping videos. The X GIF downloader explains why.
Still stuck?
If none of these fixes work, try the link again in a few minutes, as X's servers occasionally have temporary hiccups. It also helps to test with a different public post you know has a video. If that one downloads fine, the problem is specific to the original post, most likely one of the visibility issues above. If nothing downloads at all, the cause is more likely your connection, browser or network, such as a school or workplace filter that blocks some sites. You can paste x.com or twitter.com links into the Twitter video downloader or the X video downloader; both reach the same post. If the video downloaded but won't play, our guide to fixing a downloaded video that won't play is the next step.
Only download content you own or have permission to use. You can always start fresh from the ClipDrift homepage.
FAQ
Why won't my Twitter video download?
The most common reasons are copying the wrong link, or trying a post that is private, deleted or age-restricted. Open the exact post with the video and copy its link.
How do I know if a post is public?
Open the link in a private or incognito browser window. If you can see the post without logging in, it's public.
Why does the downloader say the post is unavailable?
The post may be deleted, protected, age-restricted or from a suspended account. Only public posts can be downloaded.
Can I download a YouTube video shared on X?
Not with an X downloader. If the video plays on another website, it isn't stored on X.
What does "too many requests" mean?
You've hit a temporary limit. Wait a minute and try again.
The download finished, but where is the file?
On iPhone, check the Files app. On Android, check the Download folder. On a computer, check your Downloads folder.
